Responsible for designing class and creating content. My strength is assuring that students of all learning styles and abilities can participate and learn. I regularly teach university classes and have also taught classes and workshops for teachers, high school students, middle school students, and elementary school students.

Prop class

My focus is maximizing students’ understanding and practice of techniques and concepts by having them apply them on real-world projects and circumstances. Each class project has an element of chance. Students are challenged to explore their own systems while being supported by class instruction and hands-on teacher support.

  •  Props section in Production class (University) Introduction to the use of props in theater – a course taught by several different shop heads. The prop section is a 4 week intensive filled with interactive activities designed to teach while intertaining.

  • Props Practicum (University)- Focuses on the stories that props tell combined with hands-on applications of concepts covered. Topics vary with the needs of the students and have included:

    • Fake food

    • Set dressing

    • Sculpting

    • Paperwork and documentation

    • How props function within the larger theater

    • Communication, strategies 

    • Construction and build methods

  • Advanced Props (University)-  Designed for students who are stepping in and taking a props management role.  Topics covered are based on student need and have included:

    Furniture construction

    Budgeting projects

    How to cope with an ever-changing show timeline and prop needs

Workshops or short courses create more entry points to learning. I use workshops to spark interest in the subject and to provide useful conceptual tools for teachers, props professionals and students of all ages.

  • (Teachers, high school students) focusing on how an individual lived experience affects their view on the world around them. We take a special time to identify ways. You can build a shared dialogue with someone you might have opposing views, too. The whole workshop takes a light tone by using the lens of props

  • (Elementary School to High School) Interactive course focusing on the principles of shadow puppets and their mechanics. There are two versions with different levels of complexity, creative flexibility, and practical application. Skills learned are used to construct simple shadow puppets with up to two different ranges of motion.

  • (Elementary School to High School) A quick overview of what props are, and how theatrical props work. It includes fun examples of props, humorous stories, and visuals.

  • (Props professionals) An Entry-level showing how to use Excel to create a budget template.  Focus is on making Excel accessible and fun and provides quick and easy equations and formulas.  Attendees encouraged to use their database or spreadsheet software during the workshop to apply what they are learning.
